Founder

Hi, I'm Joel Johnson. I am the founder and chief investigator at Aubor Group, a firm licensed by the Private Protective Services Board of the State of North Carolina to provide investigative, protective and legal support services to clients across the entire state. For example, we have a team of professionals that assist you with retrieving / filing court documents and serving civil process. We also provide a registered agent service, which designates us to function as your legal correspondence liaison.

It’s important for you to understand the background of an investigator before deciding to spend your hard-earned money, so let me tell you about myself. I began my career in law enforcement, where I investigated crimes in both urban and rural environments. My greatest motivators were helping victims seek justice for the wrongs done to them and ensuring due process was afforded to those accused of crimes. Throughout my law enforcement career, I interviewed victims, interrogated suspects, executed search warrants, collected evidence, served legal process, arrested criminals, and testified in court. I understand the criminal justice system and I know how to get results.

I eventually left full-time law enforcement and joined the private sector, where I built investigative software for law enforcement agencies. This software equipped criminal investigators with the modern tools necessary to conduct thorough investigations and solve crimes. I’ve trained law enforcement officers across the country on how to effectively use the tools I helped develop.

My initial interest in the private investigations industry developed after I had the privilege to work with a private investigator who I consider a friend and mentor to this day. I needed the services of a private investigator for a personal matter and discovered how effective and useful investigative services can be. Hiring a private investigator can be daunting. While many in the industry operate on legally-questionable grounds, there are investigators who are driven by integrity and adhere to strict ethical standards. That is also the origin of my motto: Ethical investigations conducted with integrity.

I specialize in criminal defense investigations. In the United States, all suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. You’ve heard the phrase countless times. Unfortunately, innocent people are charged with crimes every day. Whether from mistakes made by law enforcement officers or intentional misconduct, it happens. Don’t take my word for it— here’s what the National Institute of Justice has to say:

The strength of our criminal justice system depends on its accuracy — its ability to convict the guilty and to clear the innocent. But we know that wrongful convictions happen. Identifying and understanding the causes of wrongful convictions is critical to maintaining the integrity of our justice system.

A conviction may be classified as wrongful for two reasons:

1. The person convicted is factually innocent of the charges.

2. There were procedural errors that violated the convicted person's rights.

It is our duty as a society to ensure the innocent are not convicted and the Constitutional rights of the accused are upheld.

To summarize, I have a reputation for finding answers. I use the investigative techniques I acquired in law enforcement in combination with modern technology to provide you with a customized plan tailored to your specific needs. Let me help you build the best possible case. From locating witnesses, obtaining sworn statements, securing evidence and verifying information, I will help prepare you.

If I can be of assistance to you, please feel free to reach out. I work closely with attorneys, businesses, individuals and other organizations to help protect people and assets. Most of us experience a time where we need a professional to obtain evidence in our favor, conduct background checks, locate criminal history information, and even provide personal protection or bodyguard services. Whatever your need may be, let's talk and see how I can help.
